Introducing Cannaissances-the birth of cannabis technology
Cannabis is being legalized and deregulated around the world with the US and Canada being two of the largest markets.
If there is one thing that Americans and Canadians can agree on, it is their love of cannabis.
In Canada, cannabis was fully legalized in October 2018. For our neighbors in the US, California was the first state to legalize medical marijuana in 1996. Today, cannabis is legal for medical purposes in 40 states and for recreational purposes in 22 states.
Last year, in the US spending reached $30 billion on legal marijuana products, this exceed chocolate ($20 billion) and craft beer ($7.9 billion) combined (#MJBizDaily).
Canada has over 6 million cannabis users (2020) and the number continues to increase, sales last year hit CA$4.5 billion up 18.5% from the previous year.
Cannabis sales also grew on a monthly basis in every province and territory as tracked by Statistics Canada (presented in order of market size):
- Ontario: CA$171.2 million (+15.1%)
- Alberta: CA$73.8 million (+11.1%)
- British Columbia: CA$63.1 million (+13.3%)
- Quebec: CA$54.6 million (+12.7%)
- Saskatchewan: CA$17 million (+10%)
- Nova Scotia: CA$9.9 million (+15.2%)
- New Brunswick: CA$7.6 million (+14.3%)
- Newfoundland and Labrador: CA$6.4 million (+13.8%)
- Prince Edward Island: CA$2 million (+10%)
- Yukon: CA$966,000 (+13.4%)
Canada and the US are just two examples of countries experimenting with legalization of cannabis for medical or recreational purposes.
The cannabis industry is at its infancy as countries are only now beginning to open up, deregulate and set up systems and laws around consumption.
Introducing Cannaissances-the birth of cannabis technology
One thing that we do know is that cannabis consumers around the world are hungry for access to the plant. From South Africa to Mexico, people around the world are speaking up, protesting and pushing for the right to grow, access and consume cannabis for a variety of health, wellness, cultural and spiritual purposes.
What this means is that there is a huge opportunity for research and learning around the sacred plant. The past forty plus years of drug regulations have stunted research in cannabis. As a result the academic body of research on use, applications, and side effects remains limited.
This is why our timing is perfect.
We are in the era of innovation and experiencing an innovation revolution, we now have the ability to combine the latest technology to drive cannabis research to the next era.
The Motive
Cannabis is highly personal and the effects can vary from day to day and person to person.
Adverse effects can be highly disruptive and have dangerous consequences. Without tracking and monitoring positive effects can't be adequately measured.
Which is where we come in, we saw an obvious gap in technology and research so we began developing our app.
By using our technology cannabis users will be able to self-monitor to provide consistent dosing and delivery to maximize health outcomes.
The Cannaissances app, is a tech tool that onboards new and existing cannabis consumers on how to safely consume and monitor affects for maximum health and wellness outcomes. By using embedded technology for example your Apple watch, we will be able to track key indicators; before, during and after consumption.
Cannaissances, is the app for cannabis users to track their favorite products and enhance their cannabis experience.
Right now there are a couple of cannabis apps on the market, but there is always room for more innovation. Our unique advantage is how we have been able to utilize embedded technology for real-time monitoring.
