  1. Weather/ Climate: Consider the season, the climate and the types of extreme weather that might affect where you are going. Warm climates mean you need less clothes for extreme conditions, which means less baggage!

  1. Food: I have seen people cry when they are hungry and cant get anything that is suitable for their habitual diet. Do you have dietary restrictions? Does the country have restrictions on food for religious or cultural reasons? Will you be able to practice veganism? Are cows sacred? Is bacon banned?

  1. Safety: Not all countries are safe For SOLO WOMEN TRAVELERS. Check to see if there are any considerations for women travelers. Are LGBTQ rights accepted in the country you are visiting? Are there any travel advisories? Always check the official travel advisories from your country. https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories

  1. Visa Requirements: Do you need a visa for the country you are visiting? Is it available on arrival? Do you require any documentation? How long are you permitted to stay in the country?

Activities: Is there an activity or a subject that you are passionate about?  Sports enthusiasts might be driven by locations and seasons for skiing, surfing, biking, climbing, diving, etc. Art and culture lovers might go for live music, bands, festivals, DJ's. Whatever your passion is, consider that when you are planning your trip and prioritize experiencing the things you are most passionate about in another country. It is a great way to make really deep cross-cultural connections.
